Speaker Introduction:

Dr. Raghavan is a James McGill Professor (equivalent of Canada Research Chair – Tier I) in the Bioresource Engineering Department of the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, McGill University, Canada. He worked in various institutions as research assistant, lecturer, supervisor and chief engineer before taking a post in McGill in 1974. From the 1990s to the early 2000s, he was engaged as Honorary Professor in Nankai University, China and Honorary Post Graduate Professor in University of Agricultural Sciences, India. During 1993-2003, he served as the Chair of Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering in McGill.

To date, the total amount of Raghavan’s research grants and contracts has reached $26,235,327. He has supervised 127 graduate students to completion of their degrees. And 136 post doctorate fellows, visiting scientists and research associates have conducted their work under his guidance. Raghavan has authored or coauthored more than 550 Refereed Journal papers and 48 book chapters. He has 812 papers presented at professional society meetings, scientific conferences and research institutions, among which 102 were keynote or invited presentations.

Throughout his remarkable career, Raghavan has received numerous awards including two honorary doctorates. Since 1970s, he has been a leader and contributing member of innumerable technical and education committees and serves on 5 editorial boards of academic journals with great international influence. Raghavan currently serves as the CSBE president and is the President-elect in Academy of Science of the Royal Society of Canada. He has been inducted as a Fellow into several professional societies, including the Royal Society of Canada, the Engineering Institute of Canada, Canadian Society of Agriculture Engineers,the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers, the Indian Institution of Engineers, the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
