Professor Girish Chowdhary from UIUC Visits BEFS
Date:2018-08-03 | Visitcount:3285Dr. Girish Chowdhary from the Department of Agriculture and Biological Engineering of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign came to our College for academic exchange and delivered an academic report for BEFS faculty and students.
Girish Chowdhary is an assistant professor of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign,who carries out a lot of researches on the theory and algorithm of Adaptive Autonomy and robotics technology. Up to date, Dr. Chowdhary has published more than 90 research papers in related fields.
In the academic report entitled "Autonomous and Intelligent Robots in Unstructured Field Environments", Dr Chowdhary introduced intelligent agriculture robots through three parts: filed robots, self-learning method and control theory. He also introduced a crown robot Terra Sentia which can be applied in corn field. The robot is light and small enough to avoid damaging plants. Using 3-D printing technology, the design cost of the robot has been largely deducted. The robot also applies GPS and laser rader sensor for navigation. It also has higher adaptive algorithm allowed it to work normally in complex and bad environment. Dr. Chowdhary pointed out that agriculture robot is a key technology that may change future development and drive the transformation of agriculture.
